Spotlighting the Mahabba role in prayer

An update for January from the Network

These regular updates are continuing to unpack the refreshed Mahabba vision and how it’s being worked out in practice across the Network. Last time we reflected on the Mahabba ethos and how it aligns with the Christmas message https://mahabbanetwork.squarespace.com/blog/seen-his-glory. That’s the picture of the future we’re looking to, believing and working for.

…to see Muslim friends meeting, opening God’s word and discovering him for themselves.

Happy New Year!

This is one Mahabba group’s prayer for this year:

What are you believing for?

What is your prayer request for 2020?

This month’s update continues to unpack the potential in the Mahabba vision…

To see ministry among people of Muslim heritage as a normal part of church life; it’s a relational network which Encourages Prayer, Envisions the Christian community and Enables all Christians to Engage with Muslims.
— Mahabba's vision

This Update spotlights the Mahabba role in prayer. The Network was birthed by prayer and exists to encourage prayer - helping to grow regular persistent prayer for Muslims. This happens primarily through local groups (there are now 70), through the sharing of ‘fuel’ for prayer and the sharing of creative ideas to help us pray.

How are you keeping prayer alive in your local setting? A fresh discussion thread has been started on Discourse for us to share current challenges and experiences in our praying for Muslims. This is an opportunity to glean fresh insights and learn from one another. Please do sign in to raise your questions and share from your experience on Discourse (see link below).

A few weeks ago several of the London Mahabba groups joined for a combined prayer event with George Verwer, a good friend of Mahabba. It was encouraging and inspiring to stand together in praying for different Muslim people groups in the capital. How about connecting with other groups near you to do something similar?

Mahabba’s Jumaa prayer is a means to unite in praying one main thing each week. As we see many heading to a mosque to pray every Friday, what better time to be reminded of Jesus’ compassion for the crowds and to pray. The prayer point is posted every Friday at noon on both Twitter and Facebook @mahabbanetwork or you can sign up to receive an email prompt. Do join in praying and encourage others to.

Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
— Eph 6:18

This year’s ‘30 Days of Prayer for Muslims’ during Ramadan begins 24th April. Many initiatives are being planned for that time - why not plan a special prayer event?  Resources are available, including:
