Action & Impact September Update
As the Mahabba group we strive to be proactive in what we’re doing, supporting those who are living out the Mahabba vision – encouraging prayer, enabling all Christians, envisioning the Christian community, engaging with Muslims.
Read on to see some of the ways that we’re doing this.
CRIB conference
We were delighted to have hosted a table at the recent CRIB (Christian Responses to Islam in Britain) conference. It gave us an opportunity to spread the news about our network groups and what they do. It was a chance for us to represent ourselves to specialists in the field and remind them that we are here to encourage and equip. The conference was entitled ‘Breaking the Logjam2’ and linked three, in-person venues and include speakers, workshops, resources and networking.
Face-to-face encouragement
In November, we have our face-to-face meeting for all Mahabba group coordinators. This is a time for sharing stories, for inspiring one another and re-envisioning. There will be time for prayer, listening to God, listening to one another and hearing from guest speaker Abdullah Jamal on how to reach Muslims in this generation.
A great story from one of our groups
As I walked down the road, a voice greeted me from the opposite pavement. I turned and there was a friend from the past. “Come and chat”, he invited me into his barber shop, empty this afternoon except for his assistant. After introductions and formalities, conversation weaved through many topics until one of my answers led my friend’s assistant to ask, “Are you a Muslim?”. This is a question I get asked a lot, so I have some responses ready. We talked about how what we are called doesn’t necessarily affect our hearts. There was a lot of agreement until we talked about God’s power through Jesus to change our hearts. “Come back again and chat,” my friend suggested as I left.
